We're Celebrating 80 Years of AMCO!
AMCO celebrates 80 years in business!
AMCO Engineering, Co dates back to 1943 in Chicago and was originally known for developing and building cabinets for amateur radio and HAM radio enthusiasts. Soon after, they made the switch to building modular cabinets and enclosures. AMCO has been designing and building custom and semi-custom enclosures in steel and aluminum since the 1950s!
During the 1960s, AMCO supplied versatile enclosure lines for back up equipment, fully gusseted enclosures for superior strength to conform to shock and vibration requirements, as well as their EMI line providing radiation protection. Their work with the US Military is still ongoing today! In 1962, AMCO designed and built the first Modular Shielded Enclosure System and it was used by NASA on the Saturn Booster Program!
The 1970s included styled cabinets and consoles specially designed for broadcast, tv, monitoring and communication systems. Enclosures could be produced with a variety of colors and wood vinyl inlays.
The 1980s brought along the true computer desks and desktop cabinets. Electronic packaging was a new focus in different sizes and shapes. This along with the continuation of cooling devices lead AMCO through the 1990s.
In 2005, IMS Companies, LLC acquired AMCO Engineering and consolidated them with Exton Corp., which is a custom sheet metal fabricator. This enhanced AMCO’s ability to customize racks and enclosures. This is when AMCO Engineering became AMCO Enclosures.
Today, AMCO Enclosures is an IMS Engineered Products brand located in approximately 290,000 square feet of manufacturing space in Des Plaines, Illinois. Electronic packaging, server rack, network rack and containment manufacturing are their core competencies.
With millions of configurations available as well as standard, AMCO still recognizes the demand for customization and can manufacture custom racks to meet your specific requirements.
